The Butler girls bowling team finished fourth out of 18 teams at the WPIBL Championships Thursday. Sophomore Mercedes Belch led Butler with a 558 series and a high game of 227. Sophomore Ashley McCue added a high game of 203. Butler finished just 35 pins behind Norwin, the top averaging team in the WPIBL this season, for the final spot in the “Baker” Championship round. Plum defeated Hempfield in the for that championship.
The fourth place finish qualified the Butler girls for the Pennsylvania Western Regional Championships Saturday, March 12th at North Versailles Bowl.
A total of 10 Butler Bowlers will compete in the WPIBL Singles Championships. For the boys, Nick Huff, Hunter Lefever, Shawn Marcellus, Jordan Reges and Matt Wetzel will compete Wednesday, Feburary 24th at Family Bowlaway. Mercedes Belch, Jordyn Graham, Abby Kyle, Ashley McCue and Nicole Nebel will compete in the girls WPIBL Singles Championships Thursday, February 25th at New Great Valley Lanes in North Versailles.
