High School Sports:
WPIAL Girls Volleyball quarterfinals– Seneca Valley defeated Norwin 3-1 last night in Triple-A. They will meet North Allegheny tomorrow. N.A. defeated Armstrong 3-1. Freeport shut-out Beaver 3-0 in the Double-A quarterfinals. The Yellow Jackets will meet South Fayette, who eliminated Brownsville 3-0, Thursday.
The Mars Boys Soccer team (18-2-1) will meet South Fayette (17-3) in the Double-A WPIAL Championship Saturday at 4pm. The match will be played at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh. The Mars Girls (16-2) will meet South Park (18-2-1) in their championship game at 2pm.
The Seneca Valley Boys Soccer team (14-1-1) will face Kiski Area (9-10-2) tonight at Mars high school in the WPIAL consolation match. The winner will advance to the PIAA tournament. Game time is 8pm.
The Seneca Valley Girls Soccer team (16-3) will face Fox Chapel (18-2) tonight at Mars in the same scenarion. Game time is 6pm.
Junior forward Dara Demich scored a goal with under three minutes left in the second overtime to lift the Slippery Rock University women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Shippensburg University in the first round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday afternoon at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Slippery Rock will now play East Stroudsburg University 11 a.m. Friday in Erie, Pennsylvania on the campus of Gannon University in the PSAC Tournament semifinals. The Rock and the Warriors played to a 2-2 tie in the regular season.
The victory improved The Rock’s record to 13-5-1 overall on the year.

Slippery Rock, the fourth seed in the tournament, now moves on to play top-seeded Mercyhurst University 11 a.m. Friday at Mercyhurst. The Lakers earned the right to host the semifinals and finals after finishing the season with the best overall conference record. Mercyhurst edged The Rock, 1-0, earlier in the regular season.
