The Butler Area School Board has hired a contractor to install a water service line at Summit Elementary School.
A representative of the water engineering firm Gannett Fleming attended Monday night’s school board meeting at the Herman Volunteer Fire Hall and informed the board that three companies submitted quotes to do the work. Of the three, Advance Contracting Inc. of Mercer County made the lowest bid at just under $19,000.
The company estimates it will take them about 30 days to run a two-inch water line from the school to the closest Pennsylvania American Water line on Brinker Road.
The Gannet Fleming representative said he is familiar with this company and that they have done work in Butler County before, specifically in Mars.
The latest word from Pennsylvania American Water is that construction on their line will begin later this week and is expected to be completed at the end of July.
Summit Elementary was shut down earlier this year after tests revealed high levels of lead and copper in the school’s water. The school used to run off well water.
