Spring is in the air and construction at the site of Glade Run Lake in Middlesex Township is in full gear.
“The dam is approximately 45 percent complete so they’re moving along fairly fast,” Siggy Pehel, Glade Run Lake Conservancy President, said Tuesday. “We’re anticipating construction will be completed by October.”
After the lake was drained in 2011, work began last October to rebuild the dam and spillway.
The conservancy is also moving forward with projects to deepen channels in the lake, make an island and construct a handicapped-accessible dock. That work is also expected to be completed this summer.
According to Pehel, the group has not stopped working even after they were able to arrange state funding for the project.
“We’re working diligently,” Pehel said. “A lot of people think that we folded our tent and left town after we got the awarded money for the spillway and dam, but that’s not true. We’ve been working very hard trying to enhance the existing green space area that we have in the park and making it better for future generations.”
Pehel says the conservancy has already begun discussions about the direction of the group after the project is complete. That could involve increasing the size of the park through purchasing nearby land.
