A woman from New York was seriously injured after she fell 100 feet off a trail at McConnells Mill State Park.
The incident happened Friday afternoon near Breakneck Falls, according to Assistant Park Manager Brian Flores.
“She fell about 20 feet and then tumbled another 80 feet down an embankment,” Flores said. “She hit her head and suffered a head injury. She was conscious but out of precaution, we had to LifeFlight her out of there.”
The victim- who is in her 20s- was with a friend, who was able to call 911. The woman was rescued and flown by medical helicopter to a hospital.
Flores says the area where the victim fell was not on a trail…and park officials continue to urge visitors to stay on designated paths.
“In the location that she fell, she had to climb over a guard rail to get to this spot,” he said. It wasn’t on an established trail. It was a really steep decline, which any experienced hiker would have had trouble with.”
Friday’s incident marked the second major fall at McConnells Mill State Park this season.
