As travel picks up for the holiday season, police are reminding drivers about the state’s Move Over Law.
It requires drivers approaching an emergency situation on the side of a highway to move over a lane. If they cannot do that, drivers must go at least 20 miles per hour slower than the posted speed limit.
State Police Lieutenant Colonel Jeremy Richard talks about the danger police face on highways.
“In 2022 the PA State Police had two troopers killed and four troopers who were significantly injured as a result of crashes in emergency response areas,” Richard said.
Penalties for the violating the Move Over Law begin with a $500 fine.
