Wildlife experts say this is the time of year when rabies is on the rise in wild animals.
Pennsylvania State Veterinarian Dr. David Wolfgang says late summer and early fall are the worst times of year for rabid animals, which often include raccoons, skunks and foxes.
And- while many people may not realize it- Wolfgang says feral cats and stray dogs can also have rabies.
Wolfgang says anyone bitten by a wild animal, feral cat or stray dog should seek immediate medical attention. He says the human vaccine for rabies is very effective if received promptly, otherwise rabies a fatal disease.
