The Pennsylvania Game Commission says hunting wild pheasants could become a reality for those with access to private property within a Wild Pheasant Recovery Area.
The Game Commission Executive Director now has the authority to annually decide if a particular area will be open to rooster-only pheasant hunting. The Executive director will also determine the length of the season and the applicable bag limit.
The decision will be based on data collected from the state’s two Wild Pheasant Recovery areas over the next few months.
Most of that land is made up of private farmland so if the determination is made to allow for a hunting season, permission would need to be given to the hunters by the landowners.
