Oakland Athletics rookie starting pitcher Mason Miller had a no-hitter through seven innings, but was pulled prior to the eighth inning because he had thrown 100 pitches. The Seattle Mariners then rallied with two runs in the eighth inning to win the game. Seattle starting pitcher Bryce Miller pitched six innings, allowing two hits and a run in his major league debut. He struck out 10 and did not walk a batter. He became just the third pitcher since 1900 to have 10 strikeouts and no walks in his debut, joining Stephen Strasburg and Johnny Cueto.
Mason Miller grew up in Western Pennsylvania, and attended Bethel Park high school. He went on to pitch at Waynesburg University, and eventually Gardner-Webb. While attending Waynesburg, he was found to have diabetes. The result in improved health allowed his talent to blossom to major league attention. He was drafted by the A’s in 2021 and made his big league debut a month ago.
