Most people who lost power following the snow and ice storm last week have since got it back.
But, officials say the legacy of this storm- which caused tens of thousands of power outages countywide- will live on for awhile.
“Even after all this is done, we’re still going to have many repairs to do,” West Penn Power spokesman Todd Meyers said. “We’re doing, in some cases, temporary repairs to get customers back online. But we’re going to have to go back and make permanent repairs in the coming weeks and months. The legacy of this storm will stick with us for awhile.”
As of Tuesday, there were still roughly 1,000 West Penn Powers customers in the dark.
Meyers said Butler County does have its fair share of summertime storms that cause widespread outages, but last week’s ice and snow storm was in a league all of its own.
“This will stick with us for awhile,” he said.
Meyers says Butler County was truly the epicenter of this storm- and the damage that followed.
“Butler had the snow and ice recipe for disaster,” he said.
At the peak just following Thursday’s storm, there were more than 36,000 West Penn Power customers without service. When you factor in the outages that Central Electric Cooperative was dealing with, there were more than 46,000 power customers in Butler County without service.
