A stretch of West Brady Street in the City of Butler is expected to reopen later this month.
According to Butler City Building Code Official John Evans, the state Department of Environmental Protection will not let the contractor open the road until about 100 feet of 2 to 3 foot high fence is in place.
Also, the water company needs to replace sidewalks that had to be torn up last year when replacing water lines. That work is expected to take place in the next 10 to 14 days.
The Brady Street Bridge has been closed in between Mercer and Broad Streets since January as part of the Sullivan Run project. Butler City Mayor Bob Dandoy discusses the connection between the history of flooding and the area’s geography:
“We will never, ever get rid of it totally. There is a stream that runs through there and we are what is called the Butler Valley so everything goes to the bottom. There is still that possibility that it will be decreased by light years and it’s going to be really nice for those people down there finally.”
The West Penn Street portion of the Sullivan Run project is expected to continue into late September as a result of delays caused by recent high water events.
