Heavy and fast rain Wednesday evening caused problems just south of Butler County.
More than three inches of rain fell in less than an hour in spots. Shaler Township, in northern Allegheny County, was one of the hardest hit. Basements were flooded and cars were stuck in rising water.
Rush hour traffic was halted due to rising waters in the flood-prone Route 8 corridor in Etna and Shaler Township. A part of Route 28 was closed for a rockslide. A ball field was washed away in Shaler. There were no injuries.
There were also reports of flooding in other parts of the North Hills, including on McKnight Road near Ross Park Mall.
Rain is expected to continue Thursday morning and behind the rain will come cooler temperatures.
