You can now watch an active osprey nest from the comfort of your computer.
A new webcam is featuring a continuous live stream of a nest along the North Shore of Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park. This is the first osprey webcam in the area and can be viewed by visiting the Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau’s website, VisitButlerCounty.com.
Park officials say Moraine has one of the most significant clusters of osprey nests in Pennsylvania. Viewers will be able to watch as osprey return from migration to lay their eggs.
The osprey are also commonly known as “fish hawk” and hover about the water before diving in to snag their prey.

The osprey is an endangered bird species that Moraine State Park is lucky to provide a home for.
In the early 90s, the Moraine Preservation Fund established an Osprey Reintroduction Program, which officials say was a ‘huge success’ and resulted in six fledglings raised from several nesting platforms throughout the park.
The park was an important hacking site in the state’s osprey reintroduction program and they continue to prosper.
Ospreys fit in well on impoundments with good fish populations and artificial structures where they can build their bulky stick nests.
