The South Butler School Board is taking action and ordering more testing after high levels of lead and copper were found in the district’s water.
The latest tests done in July revealed that 21 water fixtures contained at or above 50 percent of the state Department of Environmental Protection’s levels for leads and copper. The effected fixtures are located at Knoch High School, South Butler Intermediate Elementary School and South Butler Primary School.
Initially, tests showed 37 drinking and foot preparation sites were contaminated.
The district says all of the water fixtures that showed contamination are in the process of being replaced. More testing is also scheduled to help get to the root of the contamination.
All South Butler facilities are served by public water.
