Butler Area School District administrators have informed parents, staff and students that the water at Center Township Elementary school is again safe to drink.
The results from the latest set of water quality tests conducted in early May show that all samples fall “under the primary and secondary maximum contamination levels,” according to a Monday letter from Center Township Elementary’s principal.
“We have been advised by Gannett Fleming, the district’s water engineers, that the water is safe to drink. We can now resume normal water usage at Center Township,” Principal Jeffrey D. Mathieson said in the letter.
Last month, a teacher noticed black particles floating in the school’s water. The district brought in water engineering firm Gannett Fleming to conduct tests. Bottled water was used by students and staff for drinking while the testing was taking place. The problem is believed to have been related to a power outage that may have affected the pumps that draw the school’s public water supply.
