Local residents can get their taxes done for free through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, or VITA.
VITA Program Manager Jean Bowen says the program has been around for a couple of years now, and it’s continued to grow significantly.
You have to make less than $50,000 per year to qualify. The program was started by the IRS to help low-to-moderate-income families get their taxes done for free.
It not only benefits the taxpayer, but also Butler County…by bringing in money that is often-times left on the table.
There are four VITA offices in the area- Butler City, Slippery Rock, Cranberry Township, and West Kittanning.
The filing deadline for IRS Tax Returns this year is Monday, April 18…it’s pushed back three days because Washington, D.C. celebrates Emancipation Day on April 15 (which is a federal holiday, meaning the IRS will be closed.)
To schedule an appointment, call 211 (24 hours a day) or 724-431-3767 during business hours.
