Beginning Dec. 31, drivers will no longer need to display a vehicle registration sticker on their Pennsylvania license plate.
The last sticker will be issued on Dec. 30 as a result of a transportation funding law that passed three years ago. As of New Year’s Eve, a sticker will no longer have to be displayed.
The move is expected to save PennDOT $3 million annually by eliminating the cost of producing the stickers and mailing them to drivers.
Drivers will still need to register their vehicle and pay the annual fee. Police will have electronic access to PennDOT’s database from their patrol vehicles, allowing them to verify the status of a vehicle registration and auto insurance.
