Final preparations at the new Veterans Affairs facility in Butler County- the Abie Abraham VA Health Care Center- are almost complete before staff begins helping vets next week.
“We’ve got our IT staff pulling double duty so we can continue with clinics this week at the current VA Butler Healthcare facility in Butler Township and then everyone can show up Tuesday, Sept. 5 at the new center in Center Township and have all of their equipment ready to go,” VA Butler Healthcare Director David Cord told our newsroom.
An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Tuesday at the new Center Township VA center. Director Cord says volunteers are a big part of allowing the VA to operate smoothly and things are no different at the new center.
“We’re going to need volunteers in the new health care center that are going to help with greeting veterans, helping veterans find their way to where they’re going, particularly early on. If you’ve got some time to volunteer, please come down and see us. Whether it’s a few hours a week, a few hours a month, whatever you can spare, we can always use the help.”
The VA’s annual welcome home event will be combined with a public open house on Saturday, Sept. 9.
