VA officials answered many questions but not to the liking of some during a meeting Monday about the new VA Butler Healthcare facility currently under construction in Center Township.
U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly of Butler opened the meeting at the American Legion in Lyndora before handing things off to new VA Butler Healthcare System Director David Cord.
Cord said he plans to hold quarterly public meetings on the progress of the facility, with the first being set for Jan. 7 at VA Butler Healthcare on New Castle Road in Butler Township.
Butler Township and county officials were among those in attendance at the meeting. Butler Township administrators commented that they got the answers they anticipated but not necessarily the ones they wanted.
Questions have surrounded the center for years after a site in Butler Township was originally selected and prepared to build on, but then plans fell through. Cambridge Healthcare Solutions is now building the new facility on Duffy Road (in Center Township) on a former farm.
The first steel beams are scheduled to be placed in about a month and the facility is slated to open in December 2017.
