The U.S. Justice Department is backing workers against an anti-trust lawsuit against University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
The alleged class action suit, filed in Erie, claims UPMC violated U.S. antitrust laws with policies of improper noncompete agreements on doctors and using mergers/acquisitions to control the labor markets.
The medical provider is one of the largest employers in Western Pennsylvania with 95,000 employees and has an annual revenue of $26 billion.
Any settlement agreement would benefit current and former employees.
