The ride service Uber has expanded its service area to include seven counties in Western Pennsylvania, including Butler.
Uber is now operating in Butler, Armstrong, Indiana, Washington, Greene, Fayette and Westmoreland counties, the company announced Thursday.
The expansion in Western Pa. is part of a statewide growth plan, with Uber also moving into DuBois, Gettysburg, greater Williamsport, Johnstown and Altoona.
The state Public Utility Commission granted Uber and its competitor Lyft two-year experimental certificates for statewide operation in early 2015.
