The Slippery Rock University football team will play for the PSAC Championship this weekend for the third consecutive year. Slippery Rock will travel to West Chester, who won the PSAC-East with a win over East Stroudsburg Saturday, and because first-place Shippensburg lost to Kutztown. The Rock defeated Clarion 65-13 Saturday to win a share of the PSAC-West with IUP. The Rock advances to the title game because of their 40-39 win this season over IUP. Kick-off will be 12pm Saturday. Two Rock football players were honored Sunday as PSAC Athletes of the Week following the Clarion game. Defensive back Titus Howard was named Defensive Player of the Week after the Rock held the fifth-ranked passing offense in the nation to just 237 yards of total offense Saturday. Howard had a team-high six tackles, and had an interception for a touchdown.
Jaimire Dutrieulle was named Special Teams Athlete of the Week after returning a punt 91 yards for a touchdown. Duty had 210 all-purpose yards in the game, and had a receiving touchdown as well.
The defending national champion in the top division of college football has not lost this season. Despite that, Clemson has taken over the #1 spot in the latest A.P. poll this week. Ohio State fell to #2 this week, followed by Alabama, Baylor and Oklahoma State.
