A couple of helicopters were called out to two local crashes in the Butler area Wednesday afternoon.
The first crash happened around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Kittanning Street and Portman Road in Butler. Crews from the City of Butler and Butler Township found a head-on collision and called for a helicopter to land at Butler Memorial Hospital to transport at least one person.
The second crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Interstate 79 southbound in Cranberry Township. Cranberry emergency responders requested that a helicopter land on the highway to fly at least one injured motorist to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
Both roadways did have to be closed for a time while crews were working to assist the motorists and clear the scenes.
