The speed limit on most of the Pennsylvania Turnpike has increased to 70 mph from the current 65 mph.
After studying the issue for more than 18 months, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission voted Tuesday for the increase. The change will take effect this spring.
Areas that are currently posted 65 mph will increase. Areas currently posted 55 mph- tunnels, certain toll booth areas- will remain at 55.
PennDOT is conducting a similar study on parts of Interstate 80 and Interstate 380.
