There could soon be renovations coming to a notorious stretch of road in the center of the state.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has approved a redesign of the Breezewood Interchange in Bedford County. The infamous three-mile stretch of road takes drivers off the turnpike briefly, forcing them to travel through a strip of fast food restaurants and traffic lights.
The Turnpike Commission chose Alfred Benesch and Company, which has offices in Cranberry, to plan the redesign.
The planned redesign will include reconstruction that will allow vehicles to bypass Breezewood altogether.
