Martin Truex, Jr. won the first Nascar playoff race by reaching victory lane last night in Las Vegas. Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney rounded out the top five. Playoff drivers completed the entire top 10. The win was the fifth of the season for Truex, and he clinches a spot in the second round of the 10-race playoff. Joe Gibbs Racing now has 14 wins in 27 races this season.
Jack Beckman earned his first Funny Car victory of the season by topping 70-year old John Force in the finals of the NHR Mopar Express Lane Nationals in Eastern Pennsylvania. Richie Crampton won the Top Fuel final. Jason Line and Jerry Savoie were also winners Sunday.
Modified stock car legend Michael Stefanik was killed in an airplane crash in Connecticut Sunday. Stefanik won nine Nascar series championships in his career. He won the Whelen Modified Tour seven times and the Busch North Series twice. Stefanik was 61.
