Now that we’re a couple of weeks into the new school year, it can be easy to get lax with driving skills and forget when to stop for a bus, especially on a highway.
State Police Trooper Dan Kesten talked with our radio station and reminded us that when you see the blinking lights on the school bus, you need to stop. Even on a highway, a driver, in either direction, is not allowed to pass.
An exception to this, according to Trooper Kesten, is when there is a physical barrier. He described that as a large concrete Jersey barrier or a large grass median.
It’s not cheap if you don’t follow the rules. Trooper Kesten says the penalties, fines and citations are very high and the driver will get points on their license.
