Treasurer Jeff Smith is stepping down from the Butler City Parks, Recreation, Grounds, and Facilities Authority.
Smith read his letter of resignation at the authority’s regular meeting last night but commented that he would look back on what he and this board were able to accomplish as one of the highlights of his career in public service. Last January the authority was trying to decide which bills to pay but this January they will have over $90,000 in the bank.
Smith believes that the accountability and transparency of having the current city treasurer as a voting member of the authority has been important to the authority’s turnaround. Smith is stepping down as city treasurer at the end of this week.
Smith served on the board of the authority for a year and a half. He will assist incoming city treasurer John Grenci with getting up to speed on the authority’s financial situation.
