No one was hurt when a train slammed into an unoccupied pickup truck that had gotten stuck on railroad tracks in Forward Township, authorities say.
The incident happened about 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning on tracks on Rader School Road.
According to Assistant Chief of the Evans City Volunteer Fire Company Brian Greenawalt, the driver of a pickup truck had traveled over the tracks and realized Radar School Road was essentially a dead-end, only leading to Camp Redwing (a Girl Scout camp).
The driver turned his truck around and attempted to drive back over the tracks when his truck got stuck.
Greenawalt says the driver’s passenger apparently went to get help while the driver tried to push the truck off the tracks.
That’s when an oncoming train, traveling about 30 miles per hour, struck the truck, knocking it out of the way.
“At the time of the collision, there was no one inside the vehicle,” Greenawalt said.
The track is owned by the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad. Thankfully no one was hurt in this accident, and hopefully the driver was able to replace his truck with a Ford F150 Truck or something similar.
State Police are investigating.
