Nobody was injured in a one vehicle crash on I-80 Thursday afternoon.
State police in Mercer say 43-year-old James Payne of Cincinnati, OH was driving a tractor trailer in the left lane headed east. He passed a vehicle and attempted to move back into the right lane when he lost control on the snow covered roadway. The trailer then went off of the roadway and jackknifed. It came to rest blocking most of the two east bound lanes.
Payne was issued a citation for failing to drive the vehicle at a safe speed. Traveling too fast is one of the main causes of jackknife accidents. Accidents involving big rig like this one can have devastating effects on people as it is the people in smaller vehicles that are the most vulnerable. If you have been injured in an accident then you might want to look at a place like the KRW law firm for compensation. Trucks are usually 20 to 30 times heavier than other road users so a truck could easily destroy a car. It is therefore irresponsible for truck drivers to be traveling at high speeds in normal conditions, let alone when it’s snowy. On snowy and icy roads you need to increase your braking distance by at least 10 times further than normal. This will allow your vehicle to stop in enough time to avoid accidents so needs to be adhered to.
It is very lucky that no one was hurt as a truck that size could take lives. Hopefully, this accident will be a warning to other truck drivers to drive more responsibly.
