Butler Township officials continue to consider a change to their rules about regulating noise.
Township Zoning Officer Jesse Hines spoke at Monday night’s meeting about the research he has done, with a goal of drafting a possible ordinance for township commissioners to consider in the future.
Currently, the liquor control enforcement branch of the PA State Police is responsible for figuring out when an establishment is deserving of a fine for noise. But, an ongoing dispute between a township bar and a neighboring resident has led the commissioners to consider directing Butler Township Police to enforce a local ordinance.
Any township ordinance would likely contain a decibel limit and possibly include contracting an outside company to test levels. It may also involve training township officers to be able to reliably operate sound testing equipment.
