A Butler Township Mexican restaurant is petitioning for a special liquor license.
The owner of the La Casa Mexican Restaurant in the Point Plaza Shopping Center on New Castle Road has applied for an economic development restaurant liquor license, according to township manager Ed Kirkwood. The hearing will be held on Monday, Nov. 6 at 6:45 p.m. inside the Butler Township Municipal Building on South Duffy Road.
To qualify for this type of license, the township commissioners would have to agree that the restaurant serves as economic development for the area. The restaurant would also have to prove that 70 percents of its revenue comes from food and non-alcoholic beverages. Only two such licenses can be issued in the county each year.
The La Casa restaurant had previously been open but did not serve alcohol. It has since closed and the owner, who is also the owner of the nearby Rey Azteca Mexican restaurant also on New Castle Road, would like to reopen it and sell alcohol.
