Following a presentation from their three volunteer fire companies, Butler Township will distribute funding in the same ratios as it did last year.
The township commissioners heard from representatives of the South Butler, Mercer Road, and Fire District 3 volunteer fire epartments at their meeting Monday night. The representatives detailed how 2016 money was spent and plans for funds received for the upcoming year.
Following the presentation, the commissioners decided to distribute available funding, as they did last year, with 56 percent going to the largest and busiest Fire District 3 and 22 percent each going to South Butler and Mercer Road.
A total of $348,000 has been tabbed for the Butler Township fire departments this year, which is about $10,000 more than last year.
The three companies mentioned many different expenses expected for the upcoming year but all are trying to come up with money for expensive radio equipment replacement mandated by the federal government. Butler County is chipping in a majority of the cost but a large chunk of the local budget still must be dedicated to this expense.
