If you’ve ever thought about running for a local school board, borough council or a township seat, an upcoming workshop will seek to help answers any questions you might have on the process.
Penn State Extension will offer a program called “Toss Your Hat in the Ring.” It’s a web-based seminar set for Feb. 12. There will also be various face-to-face workshops at several locations across the state as well. The fee is $25 per person.
The workshop won’t offer campaign tips or strategies, but rather focus on understanding the roles, responsibilities and personal rewards that come with public service.
“The people who run our local governments are our friends and neighbors, people just like us,” Penn State Extension Educator Peter Wulfhorst said. “You don’t need special training or experience to serve your township, borough or school district. If you’re interested in serving, care about your community and are willing to learn on the job, we’d like to encourage you to toss your hat in the ring.”
The workshop will be offered as a web-based seminar on Feb. 12 as well as at various locations throughout the state. All face-to-face workshops will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The fee is $25 per person.
Details and registration information are available at https://extension.psu.edu/toss-your-hat or by contacting Wulfhorst at [email protected] 570-296-3400.
