As we mark the end of another year, we’re looking back on some of the top stories the Butler Radio Network reported on in 2018.
For many, Dec. 31 marks a day of reflection and contemplation of the past 365 days…and a look forward for what’s to come in the New Year.
It was a busy year for Butler County, and that’s reflected in the stories we were privileged to tell you.
From a pre-winter storm that turned the lights out for thousands of county residents for days, to a weeks-long teachers’ strike that kept some local students home…it’s been a busy year.
In February, medical marijuana was legalized in Pennsylvania, and Butler County was one of the first places statewide to have a dispensary up and running.
This summer, six Butler County Prison workers became ill after coming into contact with synthetic marijuana which was sent in via inmate mail- a problem that plagued many prisons this year.
Judge Marilyn Horan became the first Butler County judge to get a seat on the federal bench.
The opioid overdose problem continues to plague the country, and the county, though preliminary numbers show a steep drop in deaths this year.
And, Pittsburgh synagogue shooting massacre affected many here in Butler, with the suspect still reportedly being housed in the Butler County Prison.
