The race in the 16th District will see longtime Republican Congressman Mike Kelly, of Butler, up against Democrat Ron DiNicola, of Erie…and it’s getting a lot of attention leading into the midterms.
The race is tied in some polls.
Kelly is seeking his fifth term as congressman. He was one of the first supporters of then-candidate Donald Trump two years ago, and he likes what he sees happening.
“We really needed a new direction, new strength and a vibrancy that we haven’t seen before,” Kelly said in an interview. “We’re seeing a very robust economy right now.”
DiNicola is an attorney and veteran from Erie.
“I think the one issue that’s been prevalent in western Pa. is that residents don’t feel like Congress is working for them…and I agree,” DiNicola said.
