The Detroit Tigers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-0 last night in Detroit. Pirate first baseman Josh Bell had a two-out sixth inning double which was the first hit of the game for the Bucs against Tigers starter Justin Verlander. The Pirates ended the night with three hits in the shut-out. Detroit pounded 14 hits, 10 of which were off losing pitcher Ivan Nova. Nova allowed six earned runs over 6-1/3rd innings. His record fell to 10-9.
The two teams meet again today for the final time this season at 1:10pm. The Pirates move on to Toronto for three games beginning Friday.
The Pirates did not lose any ground in the National League Central Division, because the Chicago Cubs lost to the San Francisco Giants 3-1 Wednesday. The St. Louis Cardinals won their fifth game in a row and are now tied with the Milwaukee Brewers at 1-1/2 games back. The Pirates are 3-1/2 games back.
