Slippery Rock University defensive lineman Marcus Martin (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) was named the Super Region One Defensive Player of the Year and The Rock landed a region-high seven players on the Conference Commissioner’s Association All-Region team that was announced Wednesday afternoon.
This is the second major award for Martin this season after previously being named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Defensive Player of the Year. It is also the first time in Slippery Rock program history that any Rock player has been named a CCA Super Region One Player of the Year.

Martin was joined by teammates Shamar Greene (Duquesne, Pa../West Mifflin), Cory Tucker (South Park, Pa./South Park), Teven Williams (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) and Andrew Huska (Ford City, Pa./Ford City) in earning first team All-Region honors. Joe LoSchiavo (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Edward) and Bob Vernick (Butler, Pa./Butler) were named to second team honors.
The Rock’s five first team selections are the most of any team in the region and the seven overall selections are tied with Shepherd for the most in the region. Grove City College junior women’s soccer standout Jordyn White of Mars earned a third-team All-Great Lakes selection this week. White anchored the Grove City defense that posted 12 shutouts this year. The Wolverines reached the finals of the conference tournament and made the Division III national playoffs.
