The Slippery Rock University football team received its third preseason national ranking Monday when The Rock was listed at No. 11 in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Preseason Poll.
The AFCA poll is widely regarded as the official Division II national ranking that is used by the NCAA throughout the season.
Slippery Rock was previously listed at No. 9 in both the Sporting News preseason poll and the Lindy’s Sports preseason poll. The No. 11 national ranking by the AFCA marks a drop of four places for SRU from the final ranking after the 2015 season. The Rock finished the year at No. 7 after posting a 12-2 overall record, winning the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title and reaching the NCAA quarterfinals.
