The Slippery Rock University football team moved up five places to No. 15 in this week’s American Football Coaches Association Division II national poll. Slippery Rock (6-1) jumped back into the polls at No. 20 last week after a 56-21 win over California and climbs five places this week following a 35-24 victory at Mercyhurst. The Rock were aided in the jump this week by five of the seven teams ranked No. 10-16 losing last week. This week Slippery Rock is listed second among all Super Region One teams and joins No. 9 Shepherd as the only two teams from the region ranked in the top 20. For the first time in seven weeks dating back to the preseason poll, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference has a second team ranked in the top 25 after undefeated Clarion broke into the poll this week at No. 25.
The PSAC Western Division is represented by three total teams in this week’s poll as IUP is listed in the “others receiving votes” section. The Rock will face Indiana at home this Saturday, October 24th, and will host Clarion at home November 7th. This Saturday’s game will have a 6pm kick-off, and is the annual “Salute to Veterans” night at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium, honoring all past, present and future military members and their families. The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New York Giants 27-7 last night in Monday Night Football. The Eagle won despite three interceptions by quarterback Sam Bradford. DeMarco Murray ran for more than 100-yards this season for the Eagles, after leading the NFL in rushing for Dallas last year. Giants quarterback Eli Manning threw two interceptions during the game.
