The Slippery Rock University football team dropped one place to No. 12 in the NCAA Division II national poll released Monday by the American Football Coaches Association. The Rock defeated New Haven 31-28 Saturday for their 18th consecutive win at home, the longest streak in Division II football.
Slippery Rock was listed at No. 11 in the preseason poll but dropped one place in the first regular season poll, despite winning its opener over New Haven last Saturday. The Rock were jumped by Ferris State, which went from No. 12 up to No. 7, and Colorado School of Mines, which leaped from No. 18 to up No. 11 after a convincing win over then No. 5 Colorado State-Pueblo, which fell to No. 19 this week.
The Rock’s week two opponent, West Chester, received 34 points in this week’s poll and is the second team listed in the “others receiving votes” category, setting up a matchupy between the No. 12 and No. 27 teams in the country in the first PSAC crossover game of the season. It is an exciting week for fans of two college football teams in Pennsylvania.
