Pirates starter Jameson Taillon pitched five innings, allowed five hits and five runs and walked a career-high five batters and the Pirates lost to the Dodgers 8-5 last night at PNC Park.
After falling behind, 4-0, the Pirates in the third inning scored five runs on a two-run home run by Starling Marte and a bases-loaded double by Josh Harrison. John Jaso’s groundout gave the Pirates a 5-4 lead.
In the sixth inning, Hurdle turned to Johnny Barbato — called up from Indianapolis earlier in the day — to protect a 5-5 tie. But he allowed two singles and walk.
Also called up from Indy, Edgar Santana, allowed a two-run homer in the seventh inning.

Relievers Juan Nicasio and A.J. Schugel were declared unavailable for Tuesday’s game by manager Clint Hurdle, the Pirates put two others on the disabled list and sent right-handed reliever Dovydas Neverauskas to Indianapolis.
Placed on the 10-day disabled list were right-handed relief pitchers George Kontos (right groin strain) and Joaquin Benoit (left knee inflammation).
Left-hander Wade LeBlanc (quad strain) remains on the disabled list and isn’t eligible to rejoin the team until Monday.
Brought up from Indianapolis to fill the void were left-hander Steven Brault and right-handers Johnny Barbato and Edgar Santana.
