The St. Francis Red Flash made this year’s Division 1 NCAA men’s basketball tournament and lost a heartbreaker of a game on a final-second shot to Alabama State last Tuesday night. A week later, the school announced they are moving down to Division III in all men’s and women’s athletics.
The changing landscape of collegiate sports, that features transfer portal and Name, Image, Likeness scenario, may be the key reason the school in Loretto, Pennsylvania to reclassify in time for the 2026 athletic seasons. St. Francis had made the move from Division III to Division I in 1993.
