You get three extra days to gather your paperwork and file your federal tax return this year.
This year’s deadline isn’t until Monday, April 18 because Washington, D.C. will celebrate Emancipation Day on Friday, April 15.
Emancipation Day is the day President Abraham Lincoln signed into law a bill ending slavery in Washington, D.C.
Emancipation Day is typically celebrated on April 16 but since the 16th is a Saturday this year, it will be celebrated on the 15th…and tax day will be pushed back until April 18.
