Another Butler County school district is dealing with high levels of lead in their water.
The South Butler County School District announced Wednesday that results of recent lead tests came back with levels over the Department of Environmental Protection’s action level.
Of the 262 water sources tested, 17 of them had lead levels at or above the action level. And, three water sources had copper levels at or above the DEP’s action level.
The district says a total of 38 water sources, including sinks and fountains, have been shut off. Additional testing is being conducted to help identify the problem, according to the district.
Earlier this year, the Butler Area School District was forced to shut down Summit Township Elementary School after high levels of lead was found in the drinking water. The school remains shut down and construction is underway to connect it to public water from well water.
