The South Butler teachers’ union has voted to authorize its leaders to call for a strike if negotiators are unable to reach a contract agreement with the school district.
An exact strike date has not been made public but the head of the union Brooke Witt said the district’s 168 faculty members are frustrated after working without a contract for nearly four years.
The major sticking points continue to be wages, healthcare, tuition reimbursement, early retirement incentive and the addition of time onto in-service days.
The South Butler County School Board will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Knoch Middle School library.
South Butler teachers last went on strike in 2009.
