Tax season is underway.
You can file your state form online for free, at revenue.pa.gov, according to Revenue Department spokesman Kevin Hensil.
The traditional April 15th deadline has been extended this year. Since the 15th falls on a Saturday and Monday the 17th is a holiday in Washington, D.C….state and federal forms won’t be due until midnight on April 18th.
Butler County residents can get their taxes done for free through a local tax assistance program.
The VITA Program, or Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, is run by the Center for Community Resources in downtown Butler. IRS-certified volunteers prepare taxes for free for people who qualify. You must make less than $50,000 per year.
There are several VITA locations including in Butler City, Slippery Rock, Cranberry Township and Kittaning.
Interested people can call 211 to see if they qualify and schedule a free appointment.
