The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Seattle Mariners 8-1 last night to split their two-game series. Jameson Taillon allowed just the one run over six innings. He picked up his second major league win, allowing six hits, striking out six and not walking a batter. Sean Rodriguez had two doubles and drove in four runs. Starling Marte had three hits and scored three times. David Freese added two hits, including his 7th home run.
The Pirates finished the month of June 9-19 overall and avoided their first 20-loss month since September of 2012. The Bucs are off today and visit Oakland this weekend.
Pitcher Ryan Vogelsong has been given full clearance to return to baseball. Vogelsong suffered three facial fractures when he was struck by a pitch while batting in a game June 2nd. He is hoping to return to the Pirates July 23rd, the day he is eligible to come off the 60-day disabled list.
