One Butler County public school district has teamed with Westinghouse Electric Company to mentor students with autism.
The Seneca Valley School District will hold several after-school meetings through April where autistic students can explore STEM careers, take part in hands-on STEM activities and talk with people from Westinghouse who are currently working as an engineer or scientist.
Each meeting will cover a different field including civil, electrical and electronics engineering, computer programming and computer aided design.
Meetings will be held from 2:45 – 4:45 p.m. in the senior high school. Topics are listed below:
Thursday, Feb. 1– Mechanical Engineering
Thursday, Feb. 15— Civil Engineering
Thursday, March 1— Electrical & Electronics Engineering
Thursday, March 15— Computer Programming
Thursday, April 5— Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Manufacturing, and Drafting of Drawings
Thursday, April 19— Physical Sciences including Physics and Chemistry
STEM stands for science- technology- engineering- and math.
“Through this program, students on the spectrum will gain valuable insight and make important connections with STEM mentors from Westinghouse,” according to the district.
