Seneca Valley School District has a budget in place for next school year that does not call for a tax increase, and also doesn’t cut programs or staff.
This is the first time in eight years that the budget has been balanced without higher taxes.
School Board President Jim Nickel credited the board and administration for their ‘big picture planning.’
“That planning is what allows us to propose this year’s budget at no increase in taxes,” he said. “When we are able to deliver a quality education to our more than 7,000 students and put forth a proposed budget with no increase in taxes, it’s a good day.”
The proposed budget includes $128,530,164 in revenue with expenditures at $131,557,023. Fund balance appropriation of $3,026,859 will be utilized to assist with balancing the budget.
Seneca Valley spans nine municipalities in southern Butler County, which has experienced massive residential and commercial growth in recent years. The district is anticipating the value of a mill to increase by 2.7 percent next school year.
The school board will vote on the proposed budget next week.
